Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.

Join me in conferring a salute to this exceptional voice of Truth Reason and Justice.

I have just read his judgement in the Janusz Walus appeal as regards denial of parole.

The matter was very much argued with so many appearing on both sides.

And ... and ... and, for perfectly predictable reasons the result/outcome was going to infuse and occupy the public space very, very keenly indeed.

I have spent over 35 years in the Halls of Law and Justice.

I have an unmatched record for the most judgments reported in the Law Reports for the period I served as a Judge in 2 different regional jurisdictions.

Judgements are reported for the guidance, instruction and inspiration of the whole of the honorable legal profession.

So, I must contend to be very well equipped to assess the quality of any judgment.

It is very difficult for me to recall any judgement, national and international, that matches the jurisprudential excellence that must be accorded to C J Zondo's Judgement.

It is an absolute masterpiece of reason, treatment of facts, factors, circumstance and Law.

Here we see what is meant by acting "without Fear, Favour or Prejudice" ...

and upholding the Rule of Law.

Here we see the significance of the fact that, after eons of experience, advanced Nations ensured that the great symbol of Justice, Lady Justice, became depicted as blindfolded.

Jurisprudentially comparing C J Zondo's judgement to that of the USA Supreme Court on abortion, is like comparing a diamond (Zondo) to a human turd (USA SC).

This is a very much trouble fledgling democracy that has yet to achieve socio-economic justice.

It is truly blessed to have Raymond Mnyamezeli Mlungisi "Ray" Zondo as its Chief Justice.
